Howool Baek and Matthias Erian at Acker Stadt Palast

Are you okay? asks choreographer Howool Baek in her new work Distorted Body at Acker Stadt Palast. Together with composer and sound designer Matthias Erian, she has created a distorted sensory landscape that allows the audience to experience the altered perception associated with depression. What does it feel like when depression slowly creeps into the body? How do the body, the senses, and inner perception change? Using choreography, spatial sound, and lighting, the piece makes tangible what often remains invisible from the outside: the shifting of an inner map in which familiar points of reference are lost. Distorted Body does not attempt to explain or dramatize depression, but rather invites the audience to engage with an experience that many people are familiar with or are currently going through.
