Unfinished Touches
Roham Amirifar / Borderless Creatures with a premiere at Acker Stadt Palast
The Flaked Signal is a dance production by Iranian choreographer and dancer Roham Amirifar, developed in collaboration with the Borderless Creatures collective, which gathers artists from diverse cultural backgrounds. Created between a village in northern Iran and Berlin, the performance unfolds a fragmented choreography of hesitation, gravity, and inchoate touch. Three bodies embark on an intimate journey through layers of pain, memory, and fleeting intimacy, with contact improvisation transforming into an expanded form of listening: voices shift, bodies dissolve and rediscover themselves, while Niki Yaghmaee's electroacoustic soundscapes intensify the sensitive structure between intimacy and aloofness. Borderless Creatures was preparing to present The Flaked Signal, a project originally conceived as a live, cross-border performance with three performers streaming from a rural area in northern Iran to Berlin. Due to the ongoing digital blackout and severe restrictions, communication with the performers in Iran has become impossible. Rehearsals were interrupted, live transmission could no longer be tested, and the project cannot continue in its original form. Rather than cancelling, and following the strong audience response and four sold-out nights of 100 Sounds of Belonging: Berlin, we decided to present it again but as a fundraising performance. This special evening will integrate rehearsal footage created in Iran before the blackout, along with a text sent from the director in Iran, reflecting his lived experience during these days. The revenue of this show will be donated directly to support the performers in Iran, where even small contributions can make a meaningful difference.
100 Sounds of Belonging: Berlin is an interdisciplinary live performance created and directed by Golsana Shenasaei. Inspired by the stories of 100 migrants in the city, the work explores how sound shapes memory, identity, and our sense of belonging. Through interviews with people from diverse backgrounds, the project asks: What sound instantly brings you back to your home country? What unfamiliar sounds did you notice when you first arrived in Berlin? These personal reflections form the foundation of a collective soundscape that bridges past and present. Blending voices, field recordings, live music, dance, and Visuals, This performance invites audiences into an intimate, sonic exploration of migration, memory, and place.
