The Urban Voices Series at the Junges Tanzhaus Berlin Returns for a Second Installment

The Urban Voices series by Future Move e. V. brings together artists from various Berlin dance communities at the Junges Tanzhaus Berlin. The second edition focuses on exploring the origins of various dance styles and their cultural appropriation within our dance scenes—and how expressions of faith and rituals, as well as experiences of colonization and resistance, become part of a mainstream that often decontextualizes their backgrounds. Performances will be followed by Q&A sessions with artists and experts who will discuss concepts such as cultural appropriation, ownership, and responsibility, and share examples of best practices. A collaborative jam session with a DJ will conclude the evening and provide space for conversation and practice. (jw)
