The Joy of Sharing
An explosive dance trio by La Fleur at Ballhaus Ost
In Trio. For the Beauty of It, the transnational group La Fleur, founded by director Monika Gintersdorfer and Ivorian choreographer Franck Edmond Yao, is inviting three dancers from different cultures and backgrounds to perform: With Ordinateur, Alex Mugler and Carlos Gabriel Martinez, the power of coupé-décalé (a dance form that emerged in the Parisian diaspora in the noughties) meets the queerness of voguing and the hybridity of Mexican urban dance. The trio uses the body and its languages to create spaces for encounters across national, social and disciplinary boundaries. It resists all temptations of nationalism or self-absorption by countering the inventiveness and frenzied joy of sharing. (jw)
