The Internationally Acclaimed Production Nureyev at the Berlin State Ballet

With Nureyev, the Staatsballett Berlin will be staging one of the most spectacular ballet productions of recent years, for the first time ever outside Russia. Kirill Serebrennikov's production paints a complex portrait of the legendary dancer Rudolf Nureyev: from his training in the Soviet Union to his escape to the West and his international fame. The work combines classical ballet with drama and opera and tells a story of artistic radicalism, political repression, and personal freedom. Originally premiered at the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow in 2017, Nureyev disappeared from the program in 2022 due to stricter LGBTQ laws, as it violated the ban on propaganda of “non-traditional values.” Kirill Serebrennikov has been living in exile in France and Germany ever since.
