Cinematic Moments of Dance

As part of the neworks series at ada Studio, Bobi H. Stojaković and Marta Marja Ruszkowska are continuing their research into cinematic moments of dance and developing it into a full-length work. The starting point is surreal and dreamlike dance scenes from Polish and Yugoslavian films of the 1950s to 1970s, spanning the Nouvelle Vague and Post-Nouvelle-Vague eras, which grapple with the aftermath of World War II and open up distinctive spaces of movement between everyday life and a state of emergency. Here, dance appears as an elusive, almost ethereal force that is neither clearly narratable nor spiritually charged. A choreographic landscape emerges between reference and reinterpretation in which bodies flow and perception shifts. (jw)
