Blurring Bodies
A German Premiere by Compagnia Zappalà Danza at HALLE Tanzbühne Berlin
With romeo and juliet 1.1 – the blur of the bodies, Compagnia Zappalà Danza will present the German premiere of a poetically and physically condensed study of love. Inspired by Shakespeare’s tragedy, choreographer Roberto Zappalà, together with two dancers, will explore the blurred edges of physical closeness. The pulsating choreography, oscillating between desire, fusion, and loss, will be accompanied by music from Pink Floyd, Elvis Presley, John Cage, and more. In the piece, Zappalà responds to the violence of the classic narrative with a form of choreographic devotion: not a commentary on love, but an act of love itself. The piece will be presented as part of Utopia – European Ensemble Network for Dance. Utopia was initiated by cie. toula limnaios as a response to current cultural policies that threaten the livelihood of many ensembles across Europe. (jw)
