A Myth in Motion
The Guest Performance Ultimo Helecho as Part of the Berlin Festival's Performing Arts Season 25/26
Último helecho by Nina Laisné, François Chaignaud, and Nadia Larcher recounts the connections between two continents, stories, and horizons of memory. This international co-production blends baroque soundscapes, South American folklore, and mythical narratives into a collage in which dance, song, and live music intertwine on equal terms. Two dazzling, queer beings emerge from a vanished world, and energetic folk dances such as zamba and huayno drive the action forward. Último helecho thus deals not only with aesthetic encounters, but also with the intertwined history of Europe and South America, marked by violence and exploitation. Drawing on the power of the fabulous, the evening strives for healing, transformation, and a possible coexistence. (jw)
